On Friday, September 11, Samuel Robert’s 73rd birthday, Delanney Ford of Meridian, MS, was denied bond by Justice Court Judge Terry Bonner for Robert’s brutal murder. Ford has been charged with kidnapping and capital murder in the death of Roberts, also of Meridian.
Ford was captured near Taco Bell and Sam’s Club in Meridian September 9 after the wanted vehicle (Robert’s black Kia Sorento) was spotted at Bonita Lakes. Eyewitnesses immediately called 911 and reported it. A few minutes later, the vehicle was again spotted at Sam’s Club.
Law enforcement agents from Mississippi Highway Patrol, Meridian Police Department and Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department canvased the area looking for Ford. He was spotted walking along I-20. Ford ran and was caught near Taco Bell. He was brough to the Clarke County Jail that night.
Robert’s body was found by a passerby on Sunday, September 6 on Hwy. 18 West, near Pachuta. His body was unidentifiable and appeared to have multiple gunshot wounds to the head and torso. Three days later, he was identified.
