What is a Hero? Contest
During the month of February, The Heroes Bridge is offering an essay/video contest for local young people on “What is a Hero?
What:
1. Write an essay of 200 to 300 words to describe what you think a hero is. The essay should include two parts:
Part One – Describe what you think a hero is.
Part Two – Name and describe someone in your life who fits your definition of a hero. Give this person’s name and address.
OR
2. Create a video of 10 to 15 minutes (such as YouTube video) to describe what you think a hero is. The essay should include two parts:
Part One – Describe what you think a hero is.
Part Two – Name and describe someone in your life who fits your definition of a hero. Give this person’s name and address with your submission of the video.
Who: This contest is open to young people in Clarke County, MS who are of the ages 12 – 17. Submissions will include a cover sheet to verify this.
Submission:
Essays or videos/copy of video link must be emailed to Dr. Mary Ann Hollingsworth, director of The Heroes Project - ahollingsworth@uwa.edu by February 22. You can also mail your submission to: Dr. Mary Hollingsworth, P O Box 685, Quitman, MS 39355.
Submissions will be judged and winners announced by March 3 in the Clarke County Tribune.
Winners will receive:
First place in both written essay and video - $100 and participation in The Heroes Bridge. (one winner each category)
Second place in both written essay and video - $50 and participation in The Heroes Bridge. (two winners in each category)
Third place in in both written essay and video - $25 and participation in The Heroes Bridge. (four winners in each category.)
Essay Submission Cover Sheet
A cover sheet must be included with each submission. Submissions will not be judged without this completed information.
Please include you name, date of birth, phone number, the school you attend (this may be a public school, private school, or home-school program), and the name and address for the Hero you describe in your submission.
