Join the new Clarke County Ministerial Association
How many churches are in Clarke County? Maybe a hundred or more? How many denominations? Perhaps 18-20? The fact of the matter is that we might know how many people attend the place of worship we attend, but not anyone else’s church. Yet, demographic information for the county tell us that the vast majority of residents do not attend any place of worship. How do we reach those people? How can we help those in need, regardless of faith? And what is the greatest need of the people of our county?
These are the questions a Ministerial Association in Clarke County might answer. There are needs in the county that cannot be met by one pastor or church. Many times pastors work on similar problems doing duplicate work. By working together in the community these needs can be brought nearer to being met, and ministers can receive strength from sharing with one another in the work for the souls for whom Christ died. Among the needs previously discussed are: hunger and the establishment of a joint Food Bank, Health and Dental Care Resources, and literacy. These are of vital concern to all of us.
Pastor Gary Howard, Quitman Seventh-Day Adventist Church, has been working with Rev. Hiram Coker, Quitman First Methodist Church, and Dr. Gene Neal, Quitman First Baptist Church, to get a meeting organized to discuss the need for a Ministerial Association. All Clarke County Clergy are invited to join them. They would like all churches be represented.
The Organizational Meeting is scheduled for Monday evening at 6 p.m., October 10, at Quitman First Methodist Church, Parish Hall, 203 E. Franklin Ave. in Quitman. Finger food will be provided by the First Methodist Church Care Group. You can contact Pastor Gary Howard at 940-886-6890, or Rev. Hiram Coker 601-776-2637 for more information. Please come.
