City of Quitman officials will meet with representatives from Smart Growth America on December 13 and 14, 2016 as part of a free, grant-funded technical assistance program. This workshop will provide the community with tools and strategies to help small communities understand how to plan for and manage growth in a regional context. The workshop will also provide Quitman with a Fiscal Impact Analysis, which uses Quitman’s own data to determine the cost of different development patterns.
City of Quitman Mayor Eddie Fulton submitted an application two years ago, and was delighted to know we will be hosting this event involving the help of former Mayor John Robert Smith, Senior Policy Advisor at Smart Growth America and the Hon. Christopher Zimmerman, Vice President for Economic Development. This event will be the culmination of several planning sessions with business leaders, civic leaders, and local elected officials.
Quitman area residents are invited to join the workshop’s first day for an introductory presentation on regional planning for small communities. The event will be held December 13, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at the Depot on Railroad Avenue.
The program, made possible through a seven-year Building Blocks for Sustainable Communities grant to Smart Growth America from the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Sustainable Communities, seeks to develop local planning solutions that help communities grow in ways that benefit families and businesses, while protecting the environment and preserving a sense of place.
