Congratulations to the Meridian Cougars’ 5th Grade and Up AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) Basketball Team on back to back tournament wins. The Cougars won first place in the MBA March MAdness Tournament in Jackson, MS, on March 5-6, 2016, with a record of 3-0. The Cougars also won first place in the 7th Annual Tuscaloosa Warriors Invitational Tournament at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL, on March 12-13, 2016, with a record of 4-0.
The Meridan Cougars 5th and Up Team is currently undefeated. The head coach is Dr. James Swindell, Jr., and assistant coach is Briton Brassfield. Current members of the team are: Clarke County resident Terry Rogers II, Neal Swindell, James Swindell, Amari McDonald, Sh/mar McDonald, Jadarius Chaney, Jordan Jones, Fernando Atterberry, Marquez Jones, and LaDonya Adams. Terry Rogers II, is the son of Caroln and Terry Rogers, Sr. of Quitman, MS.Terry Rogers II, is holding the first place winning trophy after his AAU team, the Meridian Cougars, won first place at the 7th Annual Tuscaloosa Warriors Invitational March 12-13.
