The Quitman Panthers win their second game in a row with a whole team effort from both offense and defense with special teams setting the tone.
Captains for tonight’s contest would be #2 Jaycolby Williams, #3 Dontavious Hall, #13 Latrell Hatten, #22 Levi Myrick, #33 Tony Goodman, and #44 Jerred McKenzie.
The Panthers receive the opening kickoff from the Tigers when #3 Dontavious Hall scampers all the way back to the Tiger’s 5 yard line where #16 Brijuan Dace punches the ball in for a touchdown and adds the PAT with 11:45 left in the 1st quarter. The Panthers set the tone of the game. The score is 7 to 0 Quitman.
#2 Williams kickoff line drive would be downed on their 46 yard line. The Tigers have two very dangerous returners so the Panthers would not kick to them all night. The Tigers take over when #6 Mar’Ques McLaurin drops back for a pass on 1st down and incompletes the pass.
On 2nd down the Panthers defense would tackle the runner in the backfield for a 1 yard loss. On third down #8 Jerry Gaines intercepts McLaurins’ pass and downs the ball at midfield where the Panthers take over. That would not be the last interception of the night.
The Panthers began to work with a 4 yard gain by #4 Saveonne Evans and #11 Jed Lewis picks up a 1st down. On the next series #22 Levi Myrick picks up another 1st down for the Panthers.
On the next series the Panthers find themselves in a 4th and 11 yards to gain when #11 Lewis connects with #13 Latrell Hatten for a touchdown and #16 Dace’s PAT is no good with 6:36 left in the 1st quarter. Quitman 13 Collins 0.
After a short kickoff #2 Markel McLaurin is downed on their own 49 yard line. Collins goes to work and finds them picking up yards and losing yards on runs when #6 McLaurin begins to pass the ball for two consecutive first downs on the next series. #6 McLaurin connects on a touchdown pass. The PAT is good with 4:49 left in the 1st quarter Quitman 13 Collins 7.
It seemed that both coaches had the same idea not to kick to the other’s returners. After two consecutive out of bounds kicks the Panthers #12 Keshan Johnson brings the ball back to the Tigers 43 yard line. On 2nd down #14 Javante Charles picks up a 1st down. #11 Lewis picks up another 1st down bringing the Panthers 1st and goal when #4 Evans crosses the goal line. The PAT is no good and the score is now Quitman 19 Collins 7.
After the kickoff by #2 Williams the Tigers take over and on 2nd down. #15 Jalen Watts picks off the quarterback and hauls it all the way to the house for another score and the 2 point conversion by #11 Lewis is good with 46 seconds left in the 1st quarter Quitman 27 Collins 7.
After the kickoff #6 McLaurin drops back for a pass with all receivers covered he takes off for a long gain and a 1st down. On the next 1st down play #6 drops back for a long pass to pick off by #16 Dace for a 29 yard run back to be downed on the 30 yard line where the Panthers take over on downs.
After 2 consecutive holding penalties’ the Panthers find themselves in a 2nd and 25 yards to gain, ending up with 3 and out. #2 Williams Punt is short to their own 45 yard line where the Tigers take over. #6 McLaurin picks up a first down on a run play, then drops back for a touchdown pass with 6:35 left in the 2nd Quarter. With a good PAT the score is now Quitman 27 Collins 14.
After the kick #20 TK Cameron has a good run back to the 41 yard line. On 1st down #4 Evans picks up 7 yards, on 2nd down #4 Evans breaks through the line for a 32 yard play to the Tiger 15 yard line. On 4th down on a botched snap #16 Dace’s field goal try is no good with Collins taking over on downs.
On 1st down the Panther defense gets after the quarterback and he is penalized for an intentional grounding penalty. When on the very next play #54 Chris Cooley hits the quarterback on a throw down field to be picked off again by #16 Dace runs back for 50 yards and a touchdown. #4 Evans runs in the 2 point conversion with 3:12 left in the 2nd quarter. The score is Quitman 35 Collins 14.
After the kickoff on 1st down #20 would get in on the pickoff action with an interception on a new quarterback for the Tigers. The Tigers Coach Eric Booth had seen enough when he called a timeout to settle his squad.
The Tiger defense would then hold the Panthers to a 4th down when the Panthers #5 Taderious Chapman runs the fake punt for a 1st down when time expires on the 1st half with a score of Quitman 35 Collins 14.
On to the 2nd half of play Collins receives the ball and the Panthers hold them to a quick 3 and out, after the punt the Panthers take over on the 35 yard line. The Tigers force a 3 and out and take over the ball after a #2 Williams’ punt on their own 46 yard line. After another 3 and out by the Panther’s defense and a Tiger punt to #20 Cameron. They force a fumble and on 1st down and the Tigers score. The PAT is blocked with 5:21 left in the 3rd quarter Quitman 35 Collins 20.
After the kickoff with no return and a tough 1st and 2nd down on 3rd #11 hands the ball to #26 Tydrekius Carpenter when he breaks up the middle for a touchdown and on the try for point the snap was botched again and #11 Lewis the holder scrambles and find #26 Carpenter in the end zone for the 2 point conversion. With 3:03 left in the 3rd Quarter the score is Quitman 43 Collins 20 and after both defense force each other with 3 and outs and punts, the game would end with that score.

The Panthers held the Tigers to six yards rushing as they prepare for their first district contest against the first place West Lauderdale Knights Friday, Sept. 30 at 7:00 p.m.
