Quitman Panthers
The West Lauderdale Knights won by a score of 20 to 0 against the Quitman Panthers Friday night. On a cool Sept. evening the Knights come out firing on all cylinders. The Knights would win the coin toss and defer to the second half. Captains for tonight were #18 Devon Altman #54 Chris Cooley #55 Zeke Campbell.
The opening kickoff goes into the end zone for a touchback. The Panthers take over the ball at their own 20 yard line. After the Panthers lose yards on two consecutive plays and a minimal 3rd down play they are forced to punt out from deep into their own territory. #2 Jaycolby Williams punts and West Lauderdale takes over on the Panther 34 yard line.
On first down the Knights with misdirection sweep the ball to the left and gain to the 19 yard line picking up a 1st down. On second down the quarterback drops back for a pass to the right where the Panthers seem to not have any defenders and connects for a touchdown. The PAT is good and with 9:08 left in the first quarter the score is West Lauderdale 7 Quitman 0.
After the kickoff #12 Keshan Johnson fumbles the ball and is downed on the Panther 17 yard line. After a short 3 and out # 2 Williams’ punt is downed on the Knights 45 yard line. The Knights seem to have a short field and the Panthers a long one all night.
The Panther’s defense began to settle somewhat and stop the Knight’s attack. After forcing them to a 3 and out the kicking game would prove to be true to form downing the ball on the 3 yard line. The Panthers take over the ball only to be stopped and forced to a 3 and out. The Knights take over on the Panther 38 yard line. After 2 plays the Panther defense #16 Brijuan Dace forces a fumble and #54 Chris Cooley recovers and rumbles down the sideline to near mid field.
The Panthers take over. On 2nd down the Panthers offense fumble the exchange and the West Lauderdale Knights recover. On 3rd down for the Knights time expires ending the 1st quarter West Lauderdale 7 Quitman 0.
As the 2nd quarter began on 3rd down the Knights pick up a 1st down with a pass play and on 2nd down the Knights score and the PAT is good with 10:05 left in the 2nd quarter. West Lauderdale 14 Quitman 0.
After the kickoff #20 TK Cameron returns to the Panther 38 yard line. The Panthers, starting deep in their own territory with penalties, would start inside the 25 yard line on the 23. On 3rd down #11 Jed Lewis would be penalized for intentional grounding causing loss of yardage and the loss of down, causing the Panthers to punt with the Knights taking over the ball on their own 43 yard line.
On 4th down the Knights go for the line to gain the Panthers come up with a big stop and take over on downs. The Knights force the Panthers to a 3 and out when #2 Williams punted. West Lauderdale has the football with 1:41 left in the half. The half finally ends with a 14 West Lauderdale 0 Quitman.
On to the 2nd half of play. The Panthers kick off to the Knights where they start from their own 26 yard line. On a pass play for 1st down the Knights pick up a first and on the next series of downs, they pick up another 1st down. Then the Knights’ quarterback #2 Turbo McKee drops back for a touchdown pass with 9:16 left in the 3rd quarter. The PAT is no good.
On the kick #22 Levi Myrick fields the football for a good run back. On 1st down Myrick picks up a 1st down on a jet sweep. Then Myrick gains five yards on 2nd down. The Panthers commit a false start and find themselves in a 3 and out. #2 Williams’ punt is a good one downing the ball inside the 10 yard line. On 2nd down #15 Jalen Watts is penalized for a face mask giving the Knights a 1st down.
On 3rd down #54 Cooley has a big stop in the Knights back field causing the Knights to punt. The Panthers take over on their own 48 yard line and began to move the football picking up a 1st down then a good crossing route by #13 Latrell Hatten on 3rd down. #11 Lewis would be intercepted in the end zone. After the Knights get the ball back both defenses would not give up much to the offenses.
After going back and forth the rest of the night the score from 9:16 left in the 3rd quarter would remain and end the game West Lauderdale Knights 20 Quitman Panthers 0.
