The QHS Panthers entered the EHS L.J. Davis Football field Friday night August 16, under the direction of Head Coach Rashad Gandy, and Assistant Coaches Lee Wooldridge, Kyle Barrett, Malik Lofton, Ricardo Hines, Jason Davidson, and Charles Black, with the determination of winning the game.
There is great amount of potential from Senior #8 Jed Lewis and Senior #36 Tyler Hines as they lead the victory in each quarter of the game.
In the first quarter, EHS #7 Ridge Kidd scored a touchdown for the Bulldogs, but as the field goal was kicked #23 Xavier Coleman of the Quitman Panthers came out of nowhere to intercept the kick landing the score EHS 6 – QHS 0.
With only two minutes and 53 seconds left on the clock in the first half, the Panthers scored a touchdown as the ball was passed to #27 Brandon Hicks. Coupling the touchdown with the successful field goal, the Panthers scored 7 points, leaving the bulldogs with only 6 points.
In the second quarter, after the struggle to keep the bulldogs from scoring, QHS Senior # 8 Jed Lewis took the ball and made a run for it, shrugging off every bulldog that dared to take him on, scoring another touchdown for the Panthers. Couple that with the field goal kicked by Senior #36 Tyler Hines, and the Panthers now had 14 and the Bulldogs 6.
Just minutes later, the Panthers landed their final touchdown by QHS Senior #7 Ke’Sean Johnson and another successful field goal by #36 Tyler Hines, scoring a total of 7 points.
The final score was EHS Bulldogs 6 – QHS Panthers 21.
Though the victory was fought valiantly by each team, the Panthers take the victory. Head Coach Rashad Gandy says, “We still have work to do.”
You can catch the Panthers’ start of the season on August 23 at 7:00 P.M. as they face off in an away game against Waynesboro High School in Wayne County.
