Volunteers have been steadfast and have not given up on their efforts to gain enough signatures of registered voters on a petition to come out from under prohibition.
Currently, there are 1,513 signatures for beer and light wine with 963 more signatures needed.
There are 1,137 signatures for liquor with 363 more signatures needed.
How the process works is there has to be 20% of the qualified voters to sign a petition. Once the petitions are turned into the Circuit Clerk’s office, the Circuit Clerk’s staff has to verify signatures to ensure they are qualified registered voters in the county.
“Mr. Lawrence Buckley and I will not stop until we get on the ballot and a special election is held,” said volunteer Patricia Arrington.
Once enough signatures are obtained, a special election will be held to vote on the issue of making Clarke County wet or remain as a dry county.
