The Town of Enterprise Mayor and Board of Aldermen met in regular session on Tuesday, July 5, 2022.
Mayor Tony Chancelor recognized Jeff Arrington. Mr. Arrington presented on behalf of Creature Comforts Animal Shelter a memo and income statement with the desire that the Town of Enterprise would continue to assist in increasing the donation to the shelter. Mr. Arrington stated that the cost has nearly doubled due to the care of the animals and having to keep them longer in the shelter. Mr. Arrington stated that foster care has been slow, and the cost of care is remaining longer and higher. Mayor Tony Chancelor recommended to table this request after budget review.
Mayor Tony Chancelor presented the following items of business:
(1) The need to reapply through the application process for assistance with water and sewer funds.
(2) Propose that everyone think of a day of availability to set aside for budget planning for the upcoming fiscal year.
(3) Propose to meet with East MS Regional Librarian Director, Mrs. Beth Sisson about the needs to our Enterprise Library.
Senior Center Director Dorothy McGruder asked if the Senior Citizen Center could be open one Saturday out of the month for fellowship with Senior Citizen caretakers who may be only relieved for a couple of hours from the help of their loved ones. Mayor Chancelor stated that he approved if it was within the guidelines of the Senior Citizen Center policy. Ms. McGruder also welcomed the board and police officers to make brief visits and even talk about 10-15 minutes on various community topics such as safety protocols when time permits. Most Senior Citizens are there during lunch between 10:30 -11 :00 a.m.
Water Superintendent Randy Freeman stated that the Town of Enterprise had two wastewater pumps that recently went out but were replaced.
Police Chief Bradley McNeece presented the following business:
1. Hire Kayla Gould as a part time police officer.
2. Asked if people with small fines who are struggling to pay them off that the Town of Enterprise would offer cleaning up the Enterprise Townhall to settle his/her fine as a part of community service. Mayor Tony Chancelor asked Attorney Billy Mitts to check into this. Attorney Billy Mitts agreed.
Mayor Tony Chancelor proposed that new part time officers come before the board to introduce themselves before hire. Motion was made by Alderman Darrel Phillips, second by Talmadge Gray and approved by all.
Upon motion being made by Alderman Ben Moore, and second by Alderwoman Emily Chancelor, the board voted unanimously to adjourn the meeting.
The town meetings are open to the public and are held the first Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at the town hall.
