No-hit into the sixth inning in Game 1 of Friday's doubleheader at Mississippi Delta, Jones College exploded for 12 runs in the sixth to rally for a 16-6 win and then won 9-5 to complete the sweep.
Jones improved to 35-11, 17-7 MACCC while MDCC fell to 15-23, 7-9 MACCC.
The Bobcats host No. 2 Pearl River on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
Jones 16, Miss. Delta 6
The Trojans led 4-0 in the fifth and Kevin Hill had a no-hitter working before the floodgates opened and Jones scored 12 runs in the sixth to run-away with a 16-6 victory.
Jones sent 18 to the plate and scored 12 runs, highlighted by Brady Thomas’ (Northwest Rankin) two-run homer and two-run double by Gatlin Sanders (Madison Central).
MDCC got two back thanks to three consecutive walks and a fielder's choice.
Thomas' RBI-single extended the lead to 13-6 in the ninth, Wade Fulton (Brandon) hit a sac fly and Sanders drove two more in on a double to make it 16-6.
Thomas finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a triple shy of the cycle. Sanders had two doubles and four RBIs and Colton Hegwood (Brandon) was 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs.
Beau Bryans (Madison Central) scattered six hits, two earned runs, seven strikeouts and two walks to get the win to improve to 5-1. Brandon Rhodes (St. Stanislaus) tossed the final four innings and allowed one hit and two runs to get the save.
Jones 9, Miss. Delta 5
Thomas' leadoff homer, his fourth home run in seven games, set the tone.
He'd double in the second to score Josh King (DeSoto Central) and give Jones an early 2-0 lead.
Hays Carley (Columbia Academy) and Gavin Brassfield (DeSoto Central) added RBI-singles in the third and King a sac fly to make it 5-0.
After Delta cut it to 5-3, Braden Smith (Brandon) singled to score Hegwood and two more runs scored to push the lead back out to 8-3 in the fifth.
The Trojans scored two in the sixth to cap the scoring.
Smith was 3-for-4 to lead a 15-hit attack, one of 10 Bobcats with a hit.
Micah Daniell (Oak Grove) scattered one earned run on eight hits, walked five and struck out two to get the win. He is now 3-2.
