Virginia Elvin Pettis, 82, of Shubuta, Mississippi, passed away on May 24, 2026, at her residence.
She was born on May 26, 1943, to Ellis and Cordie Mae (Worsham) Pettis in Quitman, MS.
Virginia was a longtime member of Desoto Baptist Church, where she served as Sunday School Secretary. She enjoyed singing in the church choir. She was a very friendly person that enjoyed meeting and spending time with her family and friends.
Virginia is survived by her brother, Thomas (Gloria) Pettis; three nieces, Angela (David Williams) Pettis, Louise (Chris) Walker, and Vivian (Barry) Nicholson; two great-nieces, Lauren Walker and Brittanie (Daniel) Gardner; three great-nephews, James Nicholson, Daniel Nicholson, and Timothy Nicholson; great-great niece, Ellie Jo Gardner; great-great nephew, Weston Gardner; and several extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ellis E. Pettis; mother, Cordie Mae Pettis, Smith; and sister, Leona Smith.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 29, 2026, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at DeSoto Baptist Church, Shubuta, Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, 11:00 a.m. at the DeSoto Baptist Church with Rev. Dewayne Crane officiating.
Burial will take place in the Zion Rest Baptist Church (Wayne County).
