All the world's a stage…"
So said William Shakespeare, and it is especially so in Washington Parish. From the early days, our forebears were putting on and performing in shows and pageants. And it wasn't just at Peter Pan, a magical summer tradition and program featured in my column last summer. Fantastic local talent is found on the stage community-wide with schools the training ground.

I learned recently that there was a time when Christmas was not the biggest holiday of the year. Easter was the largest celebration among Christian households.
It was in fact retail stores who brought a great deal of hype to Christmas, creating characters such as Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer to boost sales. The economy brought about this enormous celebration even though St. Nicholas in some form or another had been visiting children to leave gifts for centuries before.

Holy Family Catholic Church of Franklinton hosted a Thanksgiving Luncheon for all Law Enforcement and First Responders on November 25th in the church hall.
This is our way of thanking them for all they do for our community.
Picturedsabove are: Sheriff Jason Smith, Joanne Thory, Fr. Pedro, Franklinton Police Chief Justin Brown, and Michael Corkern.
There was an interesting presentation of photographs "Man and his Environment" when the dairy industry was very strong in Franklinton. They will hang in each office in the church. The photographs were taken by Joanne Thory in 1992.

Tammie Hunt Douglas, 61, a resident of Franklinton passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon December 7, 2025 at her home following a courageous two year battle with cancer. She owned and operated a dance supply store in Mandeville, Dance & Things, for several years and also sold jewelry and houseware goods for a time. Tammie enjoyed clothes shopping and visiting other stores looking for the perfect items. She liked reading mystery novels and always loved spending quality time with her family, beloved grandchildren and friends.
