Whether it’s from his business, NP House Calls, or seeing him as a nurse or nurse practitioner at the hospital over the years, most people have experienced some form of care from Wendell Carney in the past.
After recently receiving a diagnosis of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, there are several in the community who would like to bless him and his family since he has been a blessing to so many in the area over the years.
There will be a Wendell Carney Benefit and Car Show at Archusa Creek Water Park on Saturday, August 17, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
There will be a car show that all cars are able to be a part of, a cake auction, and a 50/50 raffle. Concessions from The Pig Out and Cassie’s Sno-Cones will be available to purchase. There will also be live entertainment provided by Brooks Wood, The Sweeneys, Rhonda Kelly, Aiden Williamson, Sending Hope, and the EPG Praise Band.
“Wendell is a public servant with a big heart and has in some way helped most of us. It is now our turn to show our support and love for him,” declared Lynn Taylor. “Bring your chairs and come out and support Wendell and enjoy the day with us.”

Wendell and his family are tremendously grateful for all the support and prayers that have been provided since he first received news of the diagnosis.
“I was working in an ER one night in early June and randomly discovered a mass under my left arm while changing shirts. Immediately, I knew it wasn’t good from the presentation. From that moment, the Lord began to open doors and facilitate an early definitive diagnosis. There is absolutely no other explanation; it was the hand of the Lord clearing a path for me. I am no different than the hundreds of my friends, family, colleagues, and fellow Clarke Countians who have walked the same path with cancer. The initial shock, fear, and uncertainty was evident. There are always more questions than answers and all of the ‘what ifs’ start to crop up. I can testify that I have been blanketed in prayer from the outset—me and my entire family have,” proclaimed Wendell. “I can’t express adequately enough in words how appreciative we are for those prayers and how meaningful to us the kind words, deeds, and intentions have been. We are thankful and blessed beyond measure. There are lessons to be learned from every chapter of life, and this is no different. I am confident there is purpose to His plan, and I will come out the wiser for it. I am trying to focus and listen to the Lord more intently than perhaps I ever have. I can tell you this: I certainly have a new appreciation for every day that I wake up and open my eyes. There is no better place in the world than Clarke County to be sick or to be in need. Our folks will love on you and take on your battles as their own. Several of our friends have initiated campaigns to assist us during this period. I cannot adequately thank them for their selfless effort on our behalf. Thank you seems so insufficient.
