Week 13
This is rivalry week. The Egg Bowl and the Iron Bowl are always two of the best games. This year, Ole Miss needs a win in the worst way to
go bowling. State lost three games on the final play of the game or they would getting ready to go bowling.
The take from week 12
Their were two 100 points games last Saturday. Arkansas downed MSU, 58-42, and Tennessee won over Missouri, 63-37. This is not your grandfather's SEC.
Florida held off the mistake prone LSU Tigers to claim a 16-10 win that also gave the Gators the SEC East Title. The loss also cost the LSU Tigers
a Sugar Bowl invite. It may have also cost Coach O his chance of being named the head coach of his beloved Tigers.
Better take notice game
South Carolina and Kentucky both won to become bowl eligible. They join Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Texas A&M, LSU, Tennessee, Florida and Georgia as bowl eligible. Vanderbilt and Ole Miss with wins this week will become bowl eligible.
This Week
The conference races have been decided so this week's games are for year long bragging rights for the winners: Auburn at Alabama, South Carolina at Clemson, Florida at Florida State, Tennessee at Vandy, Arkansas at Missouri (Friday), LSU at Texas A&M (Thursday), Georgia Tech at Georgia, Kentucky at Louisville, and the Egg Bowl between MSU and Ole Miss in Oxford.
The Picks
Ole Miss quarterback Shea Patterson did not perform like he did in his debut. His receivers who made some fantastic catches at A&M dropped several passes. The Rebels' 17 points were their lowest of the season while the defense gave up 38 points, which was the most Vanderbilt has scored in an SEC game in five years.
Mississippi State defense for the second straight week gave up over 50 points. The MSU offense did well against Arkansas, but the defense had lots of trouble.
I am puzzled on how to predict the outcome of this Egg Bowl. I guess the Rebels have more to gain with a win. Ole Miss 42, MSU 38.
USM fell behind by 17 points to North Texas in the first period only to rebound and take a fourth period lead last week. That lead only lasted for a short time as North Texas rebounded to win by six points. The turnovers will have to stop for the Eagles to have a shot against La. Tech this week. A USM win will send them bowling. USM will have a surprise for Tech, Golden Eagles 31-27.
