Friday night, the Panthers met at the L.J. Davis Football Field to face off against the Bulldogs in one of the most anticipated games this season. It was also the Bulldogs’ homecoming.
Before the game began, the Panthers lined up on the field to release blue and gold colored balloons for their former coach, Steve Bynum, who passed away early in the week due to Covid-19—a truly touching moment for those that considered Bynum as a friend, family member, coach, and instructor.
In the first quarter of the game, the Panthers’ Freshman Quarterback, Jaliel Cameron, kicked off the game with a punt that was caught by the Bulldogs at the Bulldogs’ 40 yard line and run to the Panthers’ 45 yard line. The Bulldogs ran to the Panthers’ end zone with minimal resistance from the Panthers. With a successful PAT, the Bulldogs pulled ahead in the game, Panthers 0 - Bulldogs 7.
Sophomore Quarterback Jias Davis passed the ball to Sophomore Wide Receiver Tommy Chambers, who ran the ball to the end zone for a Panther touchdown. With a successful PAT, the Panthers evened the score 7-7.
Cameron punted the ball to the Bulldogs’ 15 yard line. The Bulldogs pushed to the Panthers’ 40 yard line, 21 yard line, and finally the end zone. With a successful PAT, the score was in the Bulldogs’ favor—Panthers 7- Bulldogs 14.
Helpless to fight against it, the Panthers stopped play after play of the Bulldogs scoring touchdown after touchdown against the Panthers. The score was Panthers 7 – Bulldogs 28.
Davis then ran the ball and scored a touchdown for the Panthers against the Bulldogs, but the PAT was unsuccessful. The score was Panthers 13 - Bulldogs 28. The Bulldogs then scored many more touchdowns against the Panthers until the fourth quarter.
At the beginning of the fourth quarter, the score read Panthers 13 - Bulldogs 42. The Panthers pushed the ball to the Bulldogs’ 5 yard line. Davis made a pass to Chambers at the Bulldog 1 yard line, where Chambers then backed up that 1 yard line and scored a touchdown for the Panthers. The Panthers attempted a two-point conversion that failed.
The final score of the game left a bitter mark for the Panthers with the Panthers only having a score of 19 and Bulldogs 42.
This Friday, the Panthers will be celebrating homecoming as they face the Northeast Jones Tigers on their home field.
