Over the past few weeks, Clarke County has experienced a spike in thefts. The items stolen have ranged from vehicles to ATVs and other valuable property.
“It’s our understanding that two vehicles stolen in town were unlocked, and keys were in the vehicle,” stated Sheriff Todd Kemp.
There was also a white tow truck spotted stealing a truck a few weeks ago, and the most recent item that was reported stolen was a John Deere tractor worth $25,000 and a 20-foot trailer.
All of the thefts are still under investigation at this time. It is advised that all members of the community pay close attention to where their property is and make sure to lock all vehicle doors and not leave keys in the vehicle.
Anyone who has any information on where any of the stolen items may be or who may be committing the crimes are asked to contact the Clarke County Sheriff’s Department at 601-776-5252.
