After a long tour of away games the Panthers faced these past few weeks, the Panthers finally met with the Northeast Jones Tigers on their home turf for Homecoming.
In the first quarter of the game, the Panthers lined up at the 50 for Panther Quarterback Jaliel Cameron to kick off. Cameron kicked to the Tigers’ 36 yard line. The Tigers ran the ball in two separate plays to the Panthers’ end zone and followed the touchdown with a successful PAT, earning the Tigers 7 points in the beginning of the game.
The Tigers kicked off, and Panther Quarterback J’lon McCoy caught the ball and ran it to the Panther 32 yard line. Cameron carried the ball to the Tiger 40 yard line and earned a first down. Panther Wide Receiver Akylin Dear earned a first down when he carried the ball to the Tiger 28 yard line. Panther Quarterback Jias Davis earned a first down with a carry to the Tiger 18 yard line. Dear scored the first touchdown for the Panthers followed by a successful PAT by Davis. The touchdown and PAT earned a tying 7 points for the Panthers.
Cameron kicked the ball to the Tiger 45, where the Tigers ran the ball to the Panthers’ 45 yard line. Dear then gained control of the ball and ran it back to the Tigers’ 45 yard line at the end of the first quarter.
The Tigers ran the ball to the Panthers’ 5 yard line in the second quarter. Davis earned a first down as he snapped the ball to the Panther 21 yard line. A pass to Davis was successful as he ran the ball to the end zone and kicked a successful PAT, earning the Panthers another 7 points. The rest of the quarter was played with the Tigers trying everything to score again, but the Panthers’ defense was strong enough to hold them back. The halftime score was Panthers 14 - Tigers 7.
As halftime rolled through with beautiful girls in quite blinding sequin dresses, only one queen could be named; it was Nya Nobles. Congratulations to the Homecoming Queen of 2021.
The third quarter started with a kick from Cameron to the Tiger 38 yard line. The Tigers pushed the Panthers back to the 19 yard line on the Panthers’ side before the Tigers scored a touchdown against the Panthers with the successful PAT. The score was tied. Cameron pushed the ball to the Tiger 46 yard line, but the Tigers kicked to the Panthers’ 10 yard line. McCoy pushed the ball back to the Panther 35 yard line. Davis then pushed the ball to the Tiger 22 yard line and earned a first down. Dear scored a touchdown for the Panthers, but the two-point conversion failed. The Panthers were ahead by 6 points.
In the final quarter of the game, Cameron kicked the ball to the 46 yard line in the Tigers’ territory. In the next play, the Tigers pushed all the way to the 5 yard line of the Panthers’ territory, but Dear pushed the Tigers back to the Panthers’ 30. With a burst of energy, Dear ran the ball to the Tiger end zone, and the two point conversion was no good. The final score of the game was Panthers 26 - Tigers 14.
The Panthers will travel to Mendenhall on October 15th to face the Tigers. There will not be a football game Friday, October 8th.
