Week 11
Alabama improved to 9-0 with a 10-0 win over LSU in Baton Rouge Saturday night. The Tide held LSU to only 125 yards of total offense. The first 100 yards came in the opening half. LSU’s Heisman Trophy candidate Leonard Fournette was held to 35 yards rushing on 17 carries. LSU’s defense was pretty good holding Alabama to only 323 yards of offense, but, in the end, it was the Bama defense that stole the show.
The take from week 10
The difference between the SEC West and the SEC East in football is huge. Arkansas’ 31-10 win over Florida proves the point. The SEC West is 9-1 this season against their counterparts from the SEC East. Kentucky’s last second win over Mississippi State is the only blemish on the West’s perfect mark. Last year, the West was 13-2 against the East.
Better take notice game
MSU quarterback Nick Fitzgerald torched the A&M defense on the game’s first play as he ran 75 yards for a TD. On the day, A&M never did slow him down. He accounted for 391 yards of offense and threw for two scores and ran for two. State for the second straight game gained over 500 yards of offense.
This Week
This week, the SEC has seven conference games. Not one game stands out because at this late date in the season, they all mean something to every team.
State travels to Alabama, Ole Miss goes to A&M, Auburn goes to Georgia, Vandy is at Missouri, South Carolina heads to Florida, Kentucky travels to Tennessee and LSU heads to Arkansas.
The Picks
MSU will have another great challenge after taking care of the nation’s fourth-ranked team last weekend. They travel to Alabama this week. The Bulldogs will give the Tide a game, but, in the end, Alabama keeps their number one ranking. Alabama 35, MSU 17.
Ole Miss will have their hands full this week against an agitated bunch of Aggies. This game will depend on who starts at quarterback for either team. With Chad Kelly out for the year, the Rebels will have a tough road ahead. A&M 28, Ole Miss 10.
USM is also having some quarterback injuries that caused their recent nose-dive. Old Dominion 38, USM 14.
Week 11 Picks
Tennessee 31, Kentucky 24; Arkansas 20, LSU 10; Florida 21, South Carolina 14; Vanderbilt 17, Missouri 10; Auburn 27, Georgia 20.
The Scribe did not see the MSU upset of A&M last week. The record was only 6-3 last week, but he improved to 81-18 on the year.
