The Enterprise Bulldogs went on the road to Lake last Friday night to show the state that they are ready to dominate once again. With last season’s star, Derryon Gray, now playing college ball, senior Cooper Galyeon has stepped up as starting QB for the bulldogs. Cooper Galyeon has big shoes to fill yet proved himself and then some as Enterprise coasted to a 31-0 win over the Hornets.
The game didn’t start with the usual fireworks Bulldog fans are used to seeing as both teams struggled to put a drive together in the muddy conditions. The wet and mud covered field didn’t have any effect on Junior Zee Sims, however, as with only five minutes left in the first quarter, he bolted to the outside and scored a perfect 35 yard touchdown with a good PAT. Despite Lake’s best efforts to respond, the Enterprise defense shut down the Hornets early. Zee Sims wasn't finished as he found a massive 3rd down run to keep the Bulldog offense alive and inside the red zone. Senior Parks Burt slammed through the Lake defense and couldn't be stopped as he ran for 20 yards and a touchdown and perfect PAT before the end of the 1st.
Putting together a 14-0 score coming into the 2nd, the Bulldogs found themselves in a slight offensive slump which led to a fumble near midfield. The defense once again stood up and forced a Lake fumble on the very first play of the Hornet’s drive. Enterprise kept pushing forward to the end zone, but a costly holding penalty set back a Bulldog touchdown, so Senior Trace Roy drills a 15 yard field goal to go up 17-0. The explosive Bulldog defense stopped yet another Lake drive but a muffed punt from the Hornets set Enterprise up at the Lake 35. Senior Parks Burt had fantastic blocks and used them to set up a 32 yard touchdown for the last score of the 1st half. Down by 24, the Hornets sped up their offense and managed a first down. Lake gaining positive yards did not sit well with Junior Ridge Jackson who had the biggest hit of the night against a Lake receiver and ended the half with the Bulldog lead, 24-0.
The Bulldogs opened up the second half fast as the dangerous Enterprise offense threw for a wide open touchdown pass from Cooper Galyeon to Zee Sims. With a comfortable 31-0 lead, both schools sub in the clean jerseys, and the game died down for the rest of the time remaining. While the fireworks stopped, there was one last explosive run by Sophomore Landon McGowan to help the Bulldogs finish up near the 18. Enterprise walked away with a 31-0 win over the Hornets. The Bulldogs showed out in their season opener despite playing in a hostile environment and mud covered field. This momentum will surely lead to success in this week's game at home.
