The Front Porch- Spanish Moss Castles and Red Bug Rooms
Good afternoon from the hot hills ....I hope this post finds all of my friends cheerful and glad to be alive as the day gives way to the temperature of hotter than H..E..double hockey sticks with a pitcher of humidity poured out for us Louisiana folks to drink from.....
It's a great day to be alive as I dwell in another page of my memory book.
Today's pages roll back to the banks of the river and the Spanish Moss that used to line it ever so plentiful....
When we came up, back in the 70's and 80's we didn't have technology. Our playground was outside. On the banks of the Ouachita during the weekend, we played to our hearts content as we dreamed of what we would grow up to be.
The Spanish Moss and the red bugs that came along with it often became the foundation of our 15 room castles and gave us lessons to learn from along the way. Pulling the moss down from the trees, life gave way to play....
I'm sure a lot of y'all can relate.
If we were getting along with one another, all the moss made rooms would have a door. If we were fighting or fussing, the doors were quickly closed off. No one was allowed to come into the room. They however would soon open back up as Momma made her way over to intervene in the argument often times with a fly swat or a switch.
We soon realized that for the greater good of our bottoms, we needed to make nice, mend fences and move that moss to a pile that would be used for play another day.
After moving the moss out of the way, red bugs often served as a souvenir to remind us of our day....
We surely never needed the Atari that at the time was brand new. We didn't have cell phones and we didn't have the distractions that dog us daily in today's world.
What we did have were parents that loved us, a place to dream and a pile of Spanish Moss that made it possible....
Always thankful for those banks at the end of Belle Cote...
and the mansions that God hung in the trees for us to use..
Y'all have a good hot day from " The Front Porch " ♥️
