Bright orange shirts filled the streets of Shubuta on Saturday, August 16, as Outreach Health hosted another successful 5k event to celebrate healthcare week.
“We do this annually. This is our tenth walk, and we had 200 people register for it this year,” declared Outreach Health CEO Sabrina Howze. “This is the annual walk we do for Healthcare Week. We always promote health, so our big thing about the walk is simply to promote health. Some people have been walking ever since we started. They continue to walk at home and on the weekend. That’s my goal: if I get one person to start walking, it’s a success. We’re all about health and trying to give back to our community. We provide snacks, food, and fruit for everybody that attends.”
The staff worked hard to make sure that the walk was well-organized, and different vendors were on site for participants to visit. Along with a food stand serving snacks and breakfast for those who attended, there were also vendors such as Highly Flavored Juicery selling healthy juice options to keep everyone hydrated and Sunbelt Federal Credit Union.
Tobey Bartee with the board for Outreach Health Services was proud of how everything turned out and the excellent care they provide for the community each day.
“On behalf of the board of Outreach Health Services Incorporated, we try to participate in all these walks because we know that it’s advantageous to the community that we stay healthy,” declared Bartee. “We continue to provide quality healthcare at an affordable price, and we’re just praying that the government will continue funding rural health centers because they are all over the United States. Our CEO, Ms. Howze, does an excellent job, she and her staff. It’s a great thing that I love about it. Our board always supports whatever Outreach is doing. Our walks grow continually. Each time we have a walk, it gets bigger and bigger. Hopefully, one day we’ll be in all areas of the county doing this. I’m very proud of it.”
