In Loving Memory of Peggy Elaine Whitaker
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Peggy Elaine Whitaker, who peacefully entered the presence of the Lord on July 1, 2026, at the age of 74.
Memorial Services for Peggy Elaine Whitaker will be held Friday, July 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church located at 38 County Road 132, Quitman, MS 39355, with Reverend Anthony Underwood officiating.
Peggy was born on December 13, 1951, in Elwood, Mississippi, to James Taylor and Faye Taylor.
She was the heart of our family, a woman whose love knew no limits and whose strength carried generations. She spent her life working hard, never asking for recognition, but always giving everything she had to those she loved. Her hands built a life of sacrifice, kindness, and unwavering devotion, and her heart was always open to anyone in need.
For more than 40 years, Peggy devoted her career to being a beautician. She didn’t just style hair; she built lifelong friendships, lifted spirits, and made everyone who sat in her chair feel beautiful and cared for. She also had a remarkable talent for painting and decorating homes, bringing warmth, beauty, and creativity wherever she went. Whether she was working, creating, or caring for others, she poured her whole heart into everything she did.
She was a wonderful mother, a proud grandmother, and an adoring great-grandmother. Her family was her greatest joy, and there was nothing she wouldn’t do to make sure they felt loved, protected, and cared for. She taught us that love isn’t just spoken, it’s shown through sacrifice, loyalty, and simply being there when it matters most.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husbands, Jimmy Whitaker, Sr. and John Henry Underwood; her daughter, Gina Griffin; her brother, Bo Taylor; and her great-grandson, Luke Hawthorne.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Jimmy Whitaker, Jr. (Erica Whitaker), and step-son Anthony Underwood (Leila); her grandchildren, Ashley Whitaker (Jared Cooley), Chase Whitaker, Bristol Whitaker, Amber Easley (Brent Easley), John Griffin, Bridgett Hawthorne, Bret Underwood, Kamp Underwood, and Jameson; her sisters, Betty Lou Shaw and Myrtle Beckman; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Jacob Gentry, Cheyanne Flowers, Christopher Manning, Justice Pruett, Ryleigh Easley, Aemon Easley, Lila Easley, Ryder Cooley, and Rayden Cooley.
Peggy’s legacy is one of unconditional love, hard work, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family. She leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories, lessons, and love that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her. While our hearts ache with her absence, we find peace in knowing she is no longer suffering and is resting safely in the arms of her Savior.
