It is a very rare occasion that anyone manages to work at the same company for 50 years. This amazing feat was accomplished by Judy Evans. Growing up, Judy’s parents instilled a strong work ethic in her, and she has definitely worked hard for Terral Insurance for 50 years.
“I went to work the first week in June of 1970, and I started at the Stonewall branch of Terral,” explained Judy. “It was right next to my daddy’s grocery store, Redmond’s Grocery. My daddy actually owned the building. They needed some help, so I started working there under Buddy Davis. When I was in Stonewall, I worked in billing. After four years, they moved me down here to Quitman, and I started doing claims.”
With 50 years of work experience in the company, Judy has noticed different changes that have taken place over the years.
“There have been some different changes over time. Years ago, all the companies would give you a checkbook and you just write out the amount for the claim when the customer would bring in a quote. Now days, there are more steps and paperwork to fill out when filing a claim,” stated Judy. “Insurance has changed over the years. We’ve learned to use computers. Email makes it easier to me because I can just email a claim number and ask about the status and get a quick response.”
She takes her job in claims very seriously and makes sure to do everything she can to help her customers.
“I try to treat people the way I want to be treated when I have a claim,” said Judy. “I try to look out for them and be there for them. I love all my customers.”
Her job is perfect for her because she is a people person and enjoys being able to interact with others. She also just loves the working environment that she is in.
“I work for Richard and Scott Davis now, and they’re amazing. It’s just a good working environment here. My coworkers are great, and our office is just so loving,” explained Judy. “My children were even raised here. When Paula was born, I brought her to work with me. I came home from the hospital on a Friday and brought her to work with me on the following Wednesday.”
Despite working for 50 years already, Judy does not intend to leave just yet.
“I ask Scott and Richard every year if they want me to stay, and so far they don’t want me to go,” said Judy. “As long as I’m healthy, I’ll just keep working. I think I’ll know when the time does come for me to leave.”
It’s a good thing that she doesn’t plan to retire too soon. Her bosses truly enjoy having her around and appreciate the hard work she puts in every day.
“Judy has been with Terral for 50 years, which is longer than any owner has ever been here,” stated Richard Davis. “She’s a true asset to the business, and we’re going to see to it that she stays for many more years. Scott and I both feel the same way and are truly fortunate to have her on our team for all the years she’s been here.”
Her rare ability to remain with the same company can be attributed to one crucial thing:
“I just love what I do,” said Judy. “I appreciate and love all my customers. I’ve loved serving them for 50 years and look forward to serving them more in the years to come.”
