Clarke County had its own Goldilocks and the Three Bears experience early Sunday morning.
Narcotics agent Justin Rawson and Sheriff’s Deputy Marcus Pugh responded to a call at a house on Highway 145 North, just north of Quitman, at around 2:35 a.m.
“Somebody called and said there was a male subject in the house. They didn’t know who it was, so we treated it as if it were a burglary in progress,” explained Rawson. “When we got there, the individual said the male subject was in his bedroom. He’d seen his head poke out of the window. We went in the house and found the male subject hiding under some blankets on the bed in the bedroom.”
Rawson immediately arrested the suspect, Gregory Jerome Ragsdale, and checked him to see if he had taken anything from the residence. He found close to $6,000 in the suspect’s front pockets.
Ragsdale was then taken outside without any incidence, and Deputy Pugh checked him again before placing him in the patrol car.
“Once we got him outside, Deputy Pugh searched him before we put him in the patrol car and found approximately 93 grams (close to 3 ozs.) of amphetamines,” stated Rawson. “That’s a very large amount for this area. The arrest is going to result in a controlled substance seizure of the $6,000, and the individual at this time has been charged with burglary and trafficking methamphetamines.”
Ragsdale claimed that he was running and hiding from someone; however, the owner of the residence did not know Ragsdale and said that he had no business coming in the house, which was locked at the time.
At this time, Justice Court Judge Terry Bonner has set a $20,000 bond for the trafficking of a controlled substance charge and a $5,000 bond for the burglary charge.
