The Franklinton Demons baseball team traveled to Belle Chasse to scrimmage the Cardinals in what turned out to be a spectacular game. Another extra twist was that the Demons head coach, Clay Tageant, and the Cardinals head coach, Evan Tageant, are brothers, as well as being the sons of former FHS head coach Jeff Tageant.

*Happy February Everyone! It’s been a long cold week weather-wise to say the least. I pray that all of you are enjoying these milder temperatures even though it’s still winter. Remember it’s already February and springtime is getting nearer.

Winter Greetings!
Over the past week or so we have had some really cold weather with temperatures in the teens at night. Let your water run so you won't have frozen pipes. Thank the Lord that beautiful sunshine came some days and warmed us up a bit. I heard that Mississippi had snow, you can never tell we may even get some snow before it's over.

An amaryllis graces a window.
My mother gave me an amaryllis bulb for Christmas this past year. The plant is flowering beautifully next to my west-facing window. It has several blooms right now, and it looks like there will be more before this year’s show is over.

Robert St. John says sometimes we’re too hard on Mississippi. We know the flaws. We’ve lived with them. But we can’t see the forest for the pine trees, as they say.
Marco had never seen a pine plantation.

Below is an opinion column by Barrett Donahoe:
This is not about politics. It is about students. It is about families, and ensuring that every child—regardless of zip code or income—has access to an education that nurtures both the mind and the heart.

Below is an opinion column by Bobby Harrison:
The effort of Mississippi House leaders and others to expand programs providing public funds to private schools validates the oft-repeated quote that “history may not repeat itself, but it often rhymes.”
Efforts by Mississippi legislators to send public funds to private schools go back to at least the 1960s.

In DeSoto County, some community members and the school board want Michele Henley, the board’s former president, to resign. They say she wrote a letter and testified in support of a woman who was eventually convicted of sexual battery against a minor. Henley has denied those accusations.
