Greetings to all my faithful readers. Believe it or not this is the last week in February. Many of us are getting spoiled, having beautiful, sunny, warm days. Before we know it, it will probably get cold again. We do know that spring time is just around the corner. Let’s try to be patient; the Lord will surely see us through it all!

State Rep. Shanda Yates says Jackson property owners would collect the utility fees but not pay the bill. Renters believed the bills were being paid, that is until their utilities were disconnected.
After a spirited debate Wednesday morning, the Senate Judiciary B Committee passed a House bill holding landlords responsible for unpaid utilities covered in a tenant’s lease, a problem that has been occurring across Mississippi and brought to light in recent months in the city of Jackson, lawmakers said.

U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy has stirred up a hornet’s nest back in the Bayou State over his Facebook comments of eating a Louisiana delicacy. The Senator had this to say: “Found this raccoon in my backyard. We ate him for breakfast.” He even included a photo of the raccoon. And his Facebook friends went nuts with comments. Who on earth would even consider eating a raccoon?

The recent warm weather has many of us thinking about springtime. It will soon be time to start mowing our lawns (if we haven’t already, for the winter weeds that are flourishing) and, in April, to make the first fertilizer application of the season. I thought it was a good time to review basic care practices for our two most common turf grasses.
