Juanita Jenkins, age 86, a beloved resident of the Enon community passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, at the home of her niece, Kathy. She was born on November 9, 1939, in Tylertown, MS, to Walter Wesley Whitehead and Eva Viola Granger Whitehead. Juanita was one of the oldest and last surviving of their 14 children.

Jan Marie Laborde, 64, and a resident of Franklinton passed away peacefully Sunday morning January 11, 2026 at her home surrounded by her family, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was a born in New Orleans on May 12 1960, and grew up in St. Bernard, LA before graduating from Andrew Jackson High School in Chalmette.

Alvin Edward “Eddie” Handley Sr., 84, a longtime resident of Avondale, Louisiana passed away Sunday evening January 4, 2026. He was retired after a career of restoring, maintaining and selling furniture. Eddie and his wife owned and operated Ava’a Antiques and Restoration on Magazine Street in New Orleans for many years. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War era and later was discharged into the Marine Reserve units. Eddie enjoyed fishing as his favorite pastime.

Avalyn Saige Myers, the infant daughter of Chasity Nicole Brooks and Joseph Byron Myers was delivered into the arms of God on Monday January 5, 2026. Though we were not blessed to hold you in our arms, we know that you are now sheltered in the arms of Angels. We will one day join you in Heaven.

Robert Russell Miller, 81, a resident of Mount Hermon passed away early Tuesday morning January 6, 2026 at his daughter’s home. Russell served his country during the Vietnam War from 1962 until 1968 and was stationed in countries around the globe, including Okinawa, Japan, Greece and Germany. Following his discharge, he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Business from Southeastern Louisiana University and then worked for a time at the LSU Department of Entomology, studying and developing row crops for agriculture.

Donald Mizell, 85, a resident of the Oak Grove Community passed away Tuesday December 30, 2025 surrounded by his loving family, while at his son’s home in Texas, where he was visiting for the holidays.
He was retired after a 42 year career working at the Gaylord/Temple-Inland paper mill in Bogalusa. In retirement, Donald served as a deputy with the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office for several years. He also served his community as Constable of Ward 6 for 38 years.

Raeshell Leann Seal, 32, a resident of Franklinton passed away Friday morning January 2, 2026 at the Touro Hospital in New Orleans following a lengthy illness. She was a Class of 2013 graduate of Franklinton High School where she served four years with the Marine Corps-Junior ROTC program. She enjoyed horseback riding and taking care of other animals. Raeshell was a loving young lady who never met a stranger and always wanted to help everyone. She gave from her heart—loved everyone—her heart was so forgiving. It did not matter what anyone did or said, she was would always say “It’s Okay”.

Joseph Baldassaro, Jr., 65, a resident of Franklinton passed away Friday evening January 2, 2026 at East Jefferson General Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born on February 28, 1960 and was a native and longtime resident of Marrero before moving with family to Washington Parish over 20 years ago. Joe worked as a mechanic and in sales at Terrell’s Lawnmower in the Pine Community for many years. He enjoyed riding his tractor and working on his farm, taking care of his cows and chickens. Joe loved deer hunting, fishing and spending time in the outdoors.

Janice Varnado Crain, 79, a resident of the Thomas Community passed away early Tuesday morning December 30, 2025 at her home. She devoted over 30 years of her life working with the Louisiana Department of Family Services in Franklinton. She was known for her strong work ethic, kind spirit and compassion for her clients. Janice was a devoted member of Bible Baptist Church and dearly loved her church family. Her faith was an important part of her life and guided her throughout each and every day. Lately, she enjoyed watching her favorite mystery TV shows.

Mrs. Martha Ladner, age 86, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday December 24, 2025 in Franklinton, Louisiana.
Born on July 14, 1939, Martha was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was known as the warmest presence in any room. She was kind, thoughtful, and wonderfully silly in a way that made everyone feel at home. Her love for her family was endless and unwavering, and she poured her heart into those she loved the most.

Tisha Nicole Thomassen, age 47, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Tisha is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 26 years, Scott Thomassen; and their three precious children, Kaley Kyle, Austin Thomassen, and Lainey Thomassen. She is also survived by her sisters, Melissa (Aaron) Hines and Selena Carrier; and her nieces and nephews, Ryan (Lauren) Stumpf, the late Bree Sison, Matthew (Beth) Mizell, and Toby Mizell.
