Franklinton Mayor Darwin Sharp looks at a temporary patch installed where the Hancock Street repair occurred. He said permanent pavement will soon be laid down to make the road smooth once again.
A lengthy downtown Franklinton detour is now over.
Following repairs to a leaking gas pipe, barricades at the corner of Hancock and Washington Street were removed on Thursday.
Town workers were forced to wait for a replacement pipe because the original leaking pipe was manufactured back in the 1950’s. A replacement pipe had to be found that would fit perfectly into the ancient pipeline.
Franklinton Mayor Darwin Sharp was at the scene of the repair. He said he was extremely glad that an appropriate replacement was found for the leaking pipe.

Years ago, my good friend Mary Pratt told me she would ask her father, Walker Percy, why he had to watch the news each morning. He said it was to see who got off the world while they were sleeping.

Luke 8:1-3
"And it came to pass afterwards, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him, And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils, And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others which ministered unto him of their substance," Luke 8:1-3.

Livestock shows aren’t all about prize ribbons and belt buckles. For Abigayle Forrest, these events are more about the excitement in the air, the chance to meet people, the time spent with animals.
“Even if you don’t win something, you can have fun,” said Forrest, who showed goats as a 4-H’er in Tangipahoa Parish. “It doesn’t matter if you win something.”
Last year, for a 4-H project, Forrest decided she wanted to share that experience with those who are unable to participate in traditional livestock programs.

President Trump is a master at keeping attention on himself, but when he goes too far he exposes himself to criticism.
Sometimes this is well deserved. A good example is the recent news that his Justice Department has issued subpoenas to leaders of the Federal Reserve over Senate testimony about the $2.5 billion cost of renovating the central bank’s 90-year-old building in Washington.

Well, it's late Saturday night as I write this week's column. This morning, we had the air conditioner running and now outside it's like 56 degrees. This good ole Louisiana weather. At least they say it's gonna be much cooler all week. That certainly will help with the roller coast weather we usually have.
Stateline Missionary Baptist Church hosted a "youth fellowship meeting" this past Saturday night. It was a good place to be and the church provided a supper after the service.

The Youth of Enon Baptist Church will be holding a Dumplings for Donation Fundraiser this upcoming Sunday (January 18th). If you would like to purchase a plate, they will be ready right after church dismisses. (around 12 pm). For the sake of my child, I am going to attempt to make my daddy’s dumplings. I have never made them myself although I would help him roll the dough out as a kid. I am hoping for the best!

January greeting to you! Hopefully the New Year is treating you good. For me, I'm hanging in there taking one day at a time. So far this year we have had a mixture of cold/warm/wind and lots of fog at night and morning. By the way the changing temperature is what keeps us sick. Remember we live in Louisiana.

LSU AgCenter researchers have confirmed the presence of a new invasive insect in Louisiana sugarcane fields. The pasture mealybug was detected in Vermilion and Iberia parishes late last year, raising concerns among growers, ranchers and researchers.
Blake Wilson, AgCenter entomologist, said the insect was observed by crop consultants Nick Daigle and Ryan Viator, who noticed a yellowing canopy in commercial sugarcane fields. AgCenter researchers collected specimens from the Vermilion Parish fields.
