Opinions of President Trump’s decision to capture the president of Venezuela and bring him to the United States to face drug charges will vary. Those who support the president will think he’s doing right for America, and those who oppose him will question the legality of the overnight military operation.

Every year has its challenges and this one is no different. On the opposite page, Jonathan Kettler writes about the start of 1949 and all the challenges faced that year. It provides a real sense of perspective.
The Sun is a community newspaper so we like to focus on local news but the decimation of local news by Big Tech has caused more focus on national and international news. It is human nature to focus on what’s there.

Pine Cash on Highway 62 in Pine.
A $775,000 winning Louisiana lottery ticket was sold at the Pine Cash store for Saturday's (January 3) drawing.
Joseph Wheat of a Bogalusa mail route address purchased his winning ticket from Pine Cash. He claimed his prize at Lottery headquarters, where he received $565,750 after state and federal tax withholdings.
Wheat, a longtime Pick 3 player, said he regularly watches the Lottery drawings. On the night of the drawing, he was watching as the numbers were called and realized he had matched all six numbers to win the jackpot.

The 2026 session of the Mississippi Legislature is ready to go, and from the looks of things, the Republican majorities in both chambers must prepare to compromise to get anything high on their wish list accomplished.
A recent story on the Magnolia Tribune website explored education issues ranging from school choice to teacher pay raises; and increased financial assistance for the Public Employees Retirement System to start decreasing its $26 billion unfunded liability.

The Washington Parish Council met on December 15, with an agenda of 14 items to address before the end of the year. The meeting began with a public hearing on four ordinances to be voted on by the Council during the regular meeting immediately after.
The regular meeting then began with a prayer, and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Miss Madelyn Seal. Madelyn and Council President Kim Wagner share a special friendship and as this was the final meeting in Wagner's term as President, it was a sweet moment for both.

It was ten years ago when I first made Sally Green's acquaintance. Her grandson Erik and my daughter Betsy were courting, having met in medical school. When she and her husband Dr. Milton Green came to town, we gathered with the Green family for dinner at the Upperline, and really, that was that. Rodney regaled Dr. Milt with tractor talk. Intrigued, he inquired, "Who's got a tractor?" And I was smitten with Sally from the start. Fortunately for me, by all accounts the feeling was mutual.

*What a Blessing it is to see the beginning of another new year… January 1, 2026! As I reflect back over the year 2025, I realize that many of us have dealt with various situations in our lives. We’ve had so many ups and downs; some sunshine and rain but through it all we survived and that’s something to celebrate. Happy Blessed New Year’s Everyone!

Hello again everyone. My apologizes for missing last weeks writing. I'm sure I'll miss someone's birthday or news. Also some of the ones I do have this week will be considered "be-lated". I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas time. I know we did with all our family being at our house on Christmas Day.
Happy New Year's to all. It's New Year's Eve and at this writing they are calling for some cold weather. At least I'll get to burn up some more fire wood.
Please be safe and don't forget to check on the elderly in your area.

Greetings from Hot Springs, Arkansas! We have spent the weekend after Christmas exploring Hot Springs yet again. It really is a cool little town with lots of history. I have learned so much more about it in the last month or so. I know the mountains here aren’t as mountainous as the Smokies, which in turn aren’t as mountainous as the Rockies, but still, very pretty and highly recommended, nonetheless.
