“Most of the things you worry about, in the end turn out to be nothing,” advised Edea Baldwin. “It’s a hard lesson to learn. I know it doesn’t work to tell someone with anxiety to just quit worrying because it’s like telling a depressed person not to be sad and just be happy. You just need to somehow learn a little bit of perspective and realize that things don’t always turn out on the negative end. Sometimes they turn out on the positive end. You have to give it a little bit of time and see how it pans out.

A frequent saying around Memorial Day is “All gave some and some gave all” as we reflect on those who gave all in giving their lives for the freedom of our country. When a person enters the military, that commitment is at the heart of military service – giving one’s all if needed to fulfill the duty of protecting our freedom. The day-to-day service is that of giving the some.
In life, this applies also. Another one who gave all was Jesus as He gave His life on the cross for all of us to have life everlasting.

There has been some confusion as to the relationship between the Sheriff and Board of Supervisors and who enforces the grand jury report of the jail.
The Clarke County Board of Supervisors (BOS) does not have any authority over the Sheriff.
The Sheriff is hired by the voters of each county.
The BOS of each county in Mississippi controls the budget of the Sheriff and the jail, and that is the extent of the purview. The BOS does not employ the Sheriff, nor do they have the legal authority to fire, ask to resign, or investigate a Sheriff.

Growing up in a military family causes Memorial Day to just hit differently. This holiday invites us to pause and remember. Beyond cookouts, parades, and long weekends, this day carries the sacred weight of sacrifice. It reminds us that freedom is costly and that many men and women gave their lives so others could live in peace. As believers, Memorial Day also offers a moment to reflect on the greatest sacrifice ever made – Jesus Christ laying down His life for humanity.

In Isaiah 41:10 we read: “Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Over the years I have found that many believers live under a crushing burden of fear, guilt, and spiritual anxiety because they think their relationship with God depends entirely on their ability to “hold everything together.” They are haunted by the possibility of failure: “What if I disappoint God?
