People in Quitman have probably noticed a flamboyance of flamingos invading yards.
These bright pink birds are helping youth at Calvary Baptist Church raise money to go on a mission trip later this year.
So far, there has been a positive response to the fund raiser, and they hope that the community will continue to show support.

Thomas Oden wrote: "The cross had to be carried and endured before it could be preached. Jesus came to become the sacrifice, not clarify the concept of sacrifice. He did not come to teach about the cross, but to be nailed to it. He came that there might be a gospel to preach." That's what I want us to consider this week as we prepare our hearts for the upcoming celebration of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. For us to get to celebrate, Jesus had to suffer. And that He suffered willingly deserves not only our attention; but also, our utmost gratitude and total devotion.

Truth: a simple definition of the word would be: (1) conformity with fact or reality; (2) something that is true as opposed to false. It just doesn’t seem that hard to understand, does it? Basic logics apply: A cannot be non-A; black cannot be white; 1 cannot be 2; male cannot be female; right cannot be wrong. How did we get to the place in our culture, where there is no “truth” – nothing we can use to measure untruths by?

The biggest sports story in our state might have been the visit by ESPN conversational talk host Steven A. Smith to Ole Miss last Thursday night. Smith was called out by Lady Rebel coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin (Coach Yo) about his negative comments about Ole Miss and Oxford while Lane Kiffin was on the way out of town. Smith stated on his show “the brothers ain’t trying to come to Oxford for the most part” as the reason for Kiffin's exodus. Coach Yo then invited Smith to see for himself how the school has changed since the days of segregation.
